Why Circularity?

The textile, apparel, and fashion industries are among the most polluting in the world, generating a huge volume of clothing waste. Less than 1% of all textiles are recycled back into clothes, 25% of textile waste is reused or recycled, and 75% of textile trash is disposed of in landfills globally. In terms of water consumption, the fashion industry ranks second globally. The fashion industry is responsible for 8-10% of the carbon emission, approximately 60% of materials used in the fashion industry are made of plastic, and around 20% of the industrial wastewater pollution worldwide originates from the fashion industry.

Companies have the desire to become more sustainable. However, they do not have the expertise and tools to navigate the complexity of the supply chain and are overwhelmed by conflicting information and greenwashing.

Why moving to a circular business model? Because it's the only way forward, and has multiple benefits related to the sustainability of the business itself, to its customers, and ultimately to the global climate challenge. Here are some totable benefits:

  1. Resource efficiency. As the linear model is unstable and depletes finite resources, the circular model provides an efficient use of resources.

  2. Environmental sustainability: Circular economy promotes minimization of environmental impact from extraction to disposal( recycling, remanufacturing, refurbishing, reusing).

  3. Economic opportunities: A circular model could create new business opportunities, and economic growth, while enhancing competitiveness and resilience for the company.

  4. Social benefits: The social benefits are multiple, and a circular model promotes inclusivity and equal access to resources.

  5. Regulatory compliance: Government may define regulations that would support  the circular model and discourage the linear business model.

  6. Risk mitigation: Relying on finite resources through the linear model risks the supply chain resilience and on the long term the business continuity.
